Velayati receives Yemen president's letter to Leader

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Supreme Leader's advisor for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati on Wednesday received a letter to the Supreme Leader from Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Velayati received the letter from Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Abdullah al-Qirbi.

Velayati expressed concern about Yemen situation and said that those who stirred up strife between Shiite and Sunni Muslims in Iraq also had a hand in sectarian conflict in Yemen.

He emphasized the need for peace and tranquility in the Muslim World.

Velayati said that the U.S. and Israel have embarked on escalating tension in the Muslim World adding that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution urged Shiite and Sunni Muslims to foster solidarity.

He called for putting an end to the civil war in Yemen and urged the Yemeni government to help resolve the conflict through dialogue.

For his part, Al-Qirbi said that Iran and Yemen have common views on regional and international issues including Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq, adding that the Yemeni government and nation appreciate the Supreme Leader's views about fostering solidarity between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

He briefed Velayati on the situation in Yemen and said that the Yemeni government has made every endeavor to develop solidarity between Muslims, but, the foreign agents are fomenting conflict.

Al-Qirbi said that the Yemeni government backs Iranian nuclear program for civilian purpose.
